Hi! 

My first question is how do you update Bios? I'm planning to use an FX 8350 with a Gigabyte GA-970A. I'm using part picker and it says I need to update the bios.

Second question

can someone tell me how to overclock your hardware? And what are overclockable and not overclockable.

Third Question

How is this for a $550 budget? I'm gonna be using it for gaming and video editing etc.

if you can find a comparable mobo that does not requite a bios update ...do that 

 

Updating your bios is not recommended

 

If that's not an option read your manual. Its going to be way more in detail then anyone on here. and frankly all mobo manufacturers are a bit different. 

overclocking again I recommend doing research ...each gfx card and cpu and motherboard have various limits/methods to overclock ... for example if 2 people have a 4770k but one is on a high end gigabyte board and one is on a low end board the person with the high end board is going to have more options to play with.

so look up your motherboard and cpu combo..there will be tutorials out there.

 

As for whats overclokjcable generally ram speed, cpu speed and gpu/vram speed. But the gpu/vram and cpu are the more important.

You shouldn't have to update the BIOS. If you actually do then you go to the Mobos website and download it and go into the BIOS and it should say update or flash and follow what it says. Second there are some great guides on the forum for long term stable overclocking. I would say the only thing in the build that is meh is the PSU

Updating your bios is not recommended

 

If that's not an option read your manual. Its going to be way more in detail then anyone on here. and frankly all mobo manufacturers are a bit different. 

overclocking again I recommend doing research ...each gfx card and cpu and motherboard have various limits/methods to overclock ... for example if 2 people have a 4770k but one is on a high end gigabyte board and one is on a low end board the person with the high end board is going to have more options to play with.

so look up your motherboard and cpu combo..there will be tutorials out there.

 

As for whats overclokjcable generally ram speed, cpu speed and gpu/vram speed. But the gpu/vram and cpu are the more important.

It means I recommend you find a motherboard that doesn't require a bios update since a bios update is risky and if it does wrong can and will brick a system and I dont think its covered under warranty

In your build, I'd go for a better PSU. Something like EVGA 500B. 

 

And with that CPU it might be a good idea to get a CPU cooler. Even running at stock. Especially if you overclock. Also get a good Thermal Compound.

970a-g43 is okay for the price. You might just have to RMA it because I have had an integrated sound card issue with 2 of those boards

For one go from AMD cpu to INTEL cpu, then get the 8gb rx 480 instead of the 4gb because more and more games are using up for than 4gb is some cases (GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege, etc).
