Mini displayport compatible with thunderbolt 2

I got over excited with a feature of my laptop. I have a mini displayport and I was looking to buy an adapter for hdmi, vga and apples version of vga all in one block. (This is an apple product btw) Will it work because the mini displayport has the same connector as thunderbolt 2?   And will it work for something like and EGPU?

I don't have a mac. I am new to the whole EGPU thing. I would like something more powerful than a 750 ti though because my gpu is more powerful than that. Could you give me some help?

it would not be worth it, since the enclosures are expensive, and if you don't have a mac, wait until this fall, new stuff should be coming out (laptops with thunderbolt 3 probably)
