For some reason I remembered it exists a few moments ago before I also remember I haven't even thought about it or remember it's existence for 3 or 4 months now and since I remember my position was fairly common on it (don't care about paying for it's subscription and don't mind waiting a week or whatever) I am assuming they must be doing rather bad? Or am I way off?

I would assume that it's not exactly doing swimmingly well.

I think they underestimated how much people wanted to see their favorite tubers' videos a week early, especially when they can just wait a week and get the same content for a whopping $0. Like seriously, what the hell were they thinking?

I think the better compromise is being reached via Patreon accounts and shilling tshirts and stuff. Of course that's not anywhere near what LMG needs just to keep heads above the water but they're an anomaly even million subscriber channels are usually compromised of either people who had other types of media jobs before or people who just run solo efforts or fairly small teams of 3 to 4 guys tops.

I just checked, it's not dead. I'm sure a good 75% of people who used the free year cancelled their account because they could wait a week.

Down from about 600,000 views per day to about 130,000 views per day since the beginning of April according to Alexa (which is not very accurate). Even if the numbers aren't precise, the drop in users shown in the graph should be fairly accurate.

Not sure what you define as dead, but a lot of creators on the site has moved away from the 7-days exclusivity to things like 72 hour exclusives. That along with the big drop in users could be seen as the site dying. It's more like it's on its deathbed, struggling to stay alive with things like exclusive content.

Another interesting fact, it seems like Linus is the third most popular channel on Vessel (at least in terms of hits from searches). The first and second are IGN and Cyanide and Happiness in that order.

Well, it does piss me off quite a lot because it's almost as if the rest of us are a week out of phase with social media etc. After all, we used to have it up do date on YouTube so rather than giving the Vessel payers a little extra, he's just given the YouTube users less and made the people that want that same experience pay for it. I also don't like the way that it divides the community across a pay wall so it's almost a class thing but that's probs just me, like I can afford the monthly toll but I don't like it all the same.

Free is nice. I like to contribute directly to Linus Media Group instead of through Vessel. You do have to keep in mind that LMG has a lot of costs like expensive camera equipment, monthly Adobe subscriptions for each editor, the building they are in, paying employees, ect. So them going to Vessel for an extra way of income is not a bad idea. I mean ad revenue only pays them per thousand views on Youtube. That would not keep LMG above water by itself. They also can not give the people who pay to support them the exact same as the people who skip ads to watch them on different platforms. What is the motivation to pay when you do not have to? But then again, they do not get much of the monthly subscription cost in revenue anyway.
