Unplanned rig building. Need help

  • Basically here is my current Rig. I use this for some video editing and Gaming. I have been given the choice between getting a new car or a New rig as a gift from a close relative that came into some money. Since I work from home I chose the rig but here is where I need help from you guys. I need help in building a new rig. one that can last me a couple of years. I was originally just planning of getting a couple of 1080's on SLI or get 2 fury x's on crossfire. but I feel that there might be a bottleneck in my system.

    23 inch Asus 1080p (can't remember the exact model)
  • Cooling
    Stock Coolers, 4 120 mm cooling fans, Open side panel
  • Operating System
    Windows 7

The 8350 is definitely going to be a bottleneck, so I'd recommend pretty much parting your system out on hardware swap and picking up a Xeon V3-1231, and an H97 motherboard then getting a single high end GPU from your relative as well as a new PSU while you're at it :)

Yeah you need a better CPU if you want a high end GPU. With that comes DDR4 which is now the same or cheaper then DDR3.

Yeah, I removed that line. These questions are always so broad. By "gaming" does he mean Minecraft or recent AAA titles, by "video editing" does he mean Premiere or Microsoft Movie Maker. If I had has box and was doing enough video editing to mention it in my requirements I would put the money towards a monitor upgrade.

I play skyrim and fallout 4 in 1080 with a couple of texture mods and i use adobe priemere cs6

the 2k budget is a theoretical bottom budget. my relative wanted to give me a new car so when I said I wanted a new pc my relative said I better get what I really want.

I don't know about your relative, but if I can give you an excellent build for the money, you can practically get both car and PC? Really depends on your use case and whether or not you will re-use older parts (you didn't answer them).

 

Good PCs don't cost 2 grand or anywhere near the price of a car. And after a certain point, you start getting really bad diminishing returns. For example, a 5960X, Titan Black or a Titan X, or anything in SLI.

 

But if you can live with the build you currently have, I'd strongly suggest getting the car. It doesn't look like a bad build at all. Ideally speaking, a car trumps any gaming/editing PC in terms of value and benefits, unless you're editing for money. I'd pick a car over even the strongest of gaming PCs even if I had a car, because I'll just sell it. :D

Normally I would pick the car too. but I already have a decent truck (which that relative game me as well). and I work from home and yes my Rig is my source of income right now. So performance would help me a lot.   :-)

You apparently haven't seen his responses to questions on YouTube. He is very condescending and aggressive in his comments with which there is little justification. He acts totally different in his videos. I don't necessarily care for this content style and there is nothing really unique about him or his channel. His endless dick jokes and toilet humor are annoying as well.
