All PCIe video cards are backwards and forward compatible with all slot generations. By functionality, it will work just fine and will not destroy hardware.

Hi guys! I've just bought the parts for my new computer, but I decided not to buy a GPU (780) yet, because of the new AMD series. My question is, can it in any possible way hurt either the graphics card or the new components if I use my old, but functional, GTS 250 temporarily?

My rig is going to be (in my opinion) farkin' awesome, and I will of cause do a build-log :D

Nope, should be just fine :) As long as it's the same slot (don't try shoving an AGP in a x16 slot :P ).

don't worry, i was using an old 4870 in the rig in signature before the 780,no problems at all.

Will work just fine. ^^ (If it isn't broken or something like that ^^)

My Pc: Cpu: I7 4790k @ 4,8 Ghz @1,25 volts, Motherboard: Maximus VII Formula, Graphicscard: 2x Titan X @1,4 at stock voltage (soon to be replaced), Ram: 32 gb Corsair Dominator Platinum 2133 Cl 9, SSD: 2x 850 Pro 1 Tb in Raid 0, 2x Samsung 840 Evo 1 tb raid 1,, PSU: Corsair HXi Series 1000W 80+ Platinum, Case: H440. Soon to be watercooled again, maybe, probably, the Titans are too loud.

I'm currently running a GTX 770 on an X58 platform. It's the same situation but with the opposite components and it's working great :P

I remember being on my HD 4850 REFERENCE SINGLE SLOT HOLY BALLS IT IDLES AT MORE THAN MY CURRENT CARD MAXES OUT AT 100% LOAD card while awaiting an RMA. Wasn't the funnest experience. :lol:
