Mostly, I would think a first gen i5 would do you pretty well, especially since games are more and more GPU bound.

You could probably get a pretty decent used motherboard for cheap for that CPU.

Although, you could go for a 2000/3000 series i CPUs (they're on the same socket so work on the same boards) or newer to get a little more out of your investment.

Investing in a decent GPU (like the up coming RX 480) and a SSD might be a good idea in terms of upgrade you can make in the future.

An i5 650 and a GT 210 would be more than enough for Dota 2, but I would consider a beefier GPU incase you want to play different games.

GT 210 is horrible and should NEVER be purhcased, N E V E R.

i5 650 is 2-core-4-thread CPU and performs worse than an FX 4300. It is also C R A P.

Max you can do is 750 Ti without wasting money. I'd advise a 2nd hand i5 3330 as that is over 40% more powerful

Anything, something like call of duty or Civ V will require a lot more.

I would advise you to look at what sort of parts or rigs are on sale for how much in your country and reporting back to us.

If you're short on money I recommend looking at used parts.

Do you already own monitors? If you plan to keep them, what resolution are they?

Wait for the RX 460. It's coming soon and will be a bargain.

Well, a i5 3570 and AMD FX 8XXX CPUs are around the same price in the UK where I live, and they're both very able CPUs.

But yes, I agree with don_svetilo, AMD is coming out with very promising looking APUs (A12 series), so for a budget build I would hold out a little longer.

There are plenty of used intel cpus that are still good especially old xeons, lga 1366, and 1156 xeons go for really cheap and most will have 4c/8t, just get one with a decent clockspeed.

Ah okay. I sold my car because I moved and it was a 10 minute walk to work now, and insurance is extremely expensive for people under 25 in the UK, so it was more of a drag than anything.

I have two suggestions.

Keep an eye on any used/new parts sites/shops and snap up any deal you can as you can afford and get bits little by little, this is especially effective for finding parts like power supplies which don't fluctuate in price very often. You'll have a PC in a few months.

Or, if you can't wait, find the cheapest deals you can right now for complete PCs (used custom PCs are sold pretty cheaply, at least here in the UK) or new/used parts and you'll have a PC in a week or so. Try private (classified) sales on sites like eBay or whatever equvalent site there is in your country.

Remember, you can always build a PC with a decent motherboard and CPU with nothing much else, and buy more RAM, graphics cards and storage as you go.
