My currently laptop doesn't have the power to run some of the games that it used to be able to do even with Radeon Graphics and Intel i7 quad core. So I was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to upgrade it with parts that are plugged in to the laptop and are outside of it.

What @ComradeVodka said. Although you can do it through a small PCI-e slot.

However, there is significant bandwidth limitations and the "money to enjoyment" ratio would be bad.

if it has desktop cpu then you can change the cpu. also if it has a seperate graphics card then you can change that too.

If it has a separate GPU it's most likely an MXM chip (I believe it was called MXM that is swappable) and that is internal. OP asked for an external solution and the only external solution that exists for laptops is the aforementioned graphics adapter utilizing thunderbolt

If you're referring to doing this to a desktop it's all possible. Usually the CPu doesn't need that much upgrading though unless it's very old. What's the current specs of said older computer?
