Mobo is overkill. Id go with a synology nas if you don't need freeNAS. If you want freeNAS i suggest going with a lga 1151 build as there are much cheper mobo's that support ecc(you don't really need it).

No, you do need it. If you actually care about the data you are storing.

There are non-server boards that support ECC. Some list it as supported, some don't. If you want to do HD video streaming, you may need more than that crap pentium. the best (besides certain Xeons) CPU i know of that supports ECC is the i3 6320.
