"Good" Free Editing Software.

So, I want a "good" free (because I'm a cheapo) editor (That renders in 1280x720). I've used Movie Maker for 1 year or so, and it's gotten painfully slow (Thanks to my painfully bad specs). I've tried using Pinnacle VideoSpin (Free version) but it renders at 720x480 at most. I'm not willing to pirate anything. Any thoughts?

I am not sure for video, but Adobe Photoshop CS2 is legally free for images.

There are no freeware editors that really just work. All of them are either painfully underpowered, or in the case of lightworks hard to use. You are better off just waiting till you have enough for a editor.

Do you need to do complex compositing and visual effects? If not, Avidemux is a great video editor for basic editing and rendering. I've used it for combining video, splitting, and outputting to multiple resolutions and container formats.

There are plenty of open-source options too, but most of them are Linux only (some of them may have Windows versions compiled from source).
