As some of us know, PhysX is possible with AMD cards by using the CPU to handle the processing. I'm wondering just exactly how much CPU power is needed to handle those effects at 2.5K, 4K or even 5K resolutions?

I have a i5 4570S, will that be enough?

That is a pretty powerful CPU, give it a try and see what happens.

I'm too inexperienced with things like this to give you a decent answer lol

PhysX done by CPU is not full, advanced PhysX - won't work the same as with Nvidia GPU, also you take a huge performance hit in some games. Yes the CPU processing is possible with AMD cards, or GeForce cards.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

A lot of CPU power. They're not the same PhysX as the CPU does not do advanced PhysX. PhysX on CPU is also incredibly unoptimized and is incredibly demanding for such a small return.

Typically you would scale down the physX setting or turn it off.

Agreed. If @OP wants PhysX, no other way.

My friend was able to max out PhysX in Batman Arkham City, but that was at 1920x1080 with 3570K and 7970 GHz

It probably wasnt full physx but i never tried to test in that particular game.

ok if you want to play physx at its best nvidia card

but

i personally dont see te point in buying another card just to get physx

if it was upgrading and you wanted phsx then buy the nvidia card??

yah

you can use physx on your cpu but not/never as good as the nvidia version as it can fully utilize it (i htink cuz of drivers)

You might be able to run Physx since I have a 4670K and running Physx in Hawken makes me have frame drops and it drops around 35-40fps even though I have a pretty good gpu. But the advanced physx are Nvidia only.
