I am interested to build a computer for overclocking... I wanted to know if these are good parts for that...

i7- 4790K

212 EVO

MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition

16GB EVGA superclocked ram

GTX 1070 (or waiting to see what the new AMD cards look like)

Corsair CX 600W

Are there any parts that will limit my performance if I start overclocking?

I hear the Skylake line up is much better at overclocking

And you'll want an AIO cooler. Of course, a phase change cooler would be ideal, but not very realistic.

Finally, please DON'T get a CX PSU, an EVGA G2 650 would be great.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

I wouldn't overclock on a CX600, the quality of the PSU isn't going to cut it. Go for a CX550M or any Seasonic PSU.

Also, why not make the change to Skylake? An i7 6700K with a Z170 motherboard and DDR4 RAM shouldn't cost much more.

To be fair, the PSU would probably be fine... I don't think its sub par to the point where it would cause such a large voltage fluctuation that it would be a big deal.

But, it is the value PSU option, not what you usually want for overclocking. I have an RM750 which is way more power than I need (it was a warranty replacement for my TX750 which I did need back in the 8800 GTS days) and it seems to do just fine. But like others said, seasonic is great as well.

And yea, go with skylake.

If you're buying everything new, definitely go Skylake. There's not really any good reason to get older generation parts. 4.5GHz on Skylake runs faster and more efficiently than 4.5GHz on Devil's Canyon. DDR4 is also better than DDR3 (typically slightly higher cas latencies, much higher frequencies, lower voltages).

The 212 evo has a new model, the 212X. this one is SLIGHTLY better, supposed to be a bit quieter, and pretty much the same price. Although if you really want the best overclocks to be had, you're going to need a beefier cooler than this. But you can get a decent enough clock on a 212, hefty air coolers or AIO's may only get you 100MHz-300MHz more depending on your noise tolerance. If you're cool aiming for 4.3-4.5 GHz, this cooler should do fine. if you want more than that, you're gonna need a bigger boat.

If you go skylake, be sure to get DDR4 ram

And lastly your power supply. 600W is enough for that system by a long shot, even overclocking. However the quality of the PSU you picked isn't all that good. Again, if you aren't going to push your clocks that hard (seeing as you're going for a 212 evo) then this PSU should do fine. but if you're looking for bleeding edge overclocks, you're going to need a PSU of sturdier quality than this (not more watts, but better and more steady power flow)

I don't know your budget so I'm not about to give any suggestions on what to get, but just take these points into account before buying (do not feel obligated to do any of these. If you're happy with your build, then go for it. this is merely a suggestion for you to consider)
