Hi

My current head set is a really cheap piece of crap, and I have been thinking about upgrading for a while now, and I finally decided to do it when they started to rattle during bass sounds... Eww....

Anyhow, I don't have any previous experience with high end audio stuff, so I am not entirely sure what I want, but I know what I think I want :)

So here it goes: I want closed cuffs, (if that's the term for it), that does not sit on the ears, but rather around them. They also need to have a microphone that isn't too bad either, but I am mainly going to use it for voice chat for gaming, so not too fancy. As for the sound it self, I would prefer if it wasn't too much bass, as I understand it, that might make it harder to clearly hear speech.

As for the price, around 150 dollars (about 1000SEK as it where) is about the highest that I am willing to go for a budget at this time.

Any suggestions, or reasons why I should change my mind about some part?

Thank you :)

For that price, i would seriously recommend you buy stand  alone head phones and a USB / analogue mic. You will get superior audio quality as awell as mic quality. For headsets, you will pay a premium for lack lustre audio and only having a "2 in 1" as it were.

Or are you adamant on a headset?

Well, to me it seems way more convenient to have both in one kit, but I didn't know that the quality wasn't on par :S

I should probably say that I am using on board audio as well, and as I understand it it is not a good idea to buy both the head phones and an audio card with this budget.

I've been happy with both the Logitech G430 (What I'm using now) and the Steelseries V2 (tend to be iffy headsets but comfortable)

Yeah, spend all of your budget on headphones. I'll list a few good closed headphones below without links - you'll have to see what they prices are like wherever you wish to order them from. As for the mic, usually the Zalman clip-on is around ten bucks, but any lapel mic you can find around that price should be sufficient and about the same as a headset mic.

Audiotechnica ATH-A700X

V-Moda Crossfade LP

Phillips Uptown

I usually don't buy used because I think its scary to not have any kind of guarantee, and you never know how they have been handled :S

Most headphones are very well built, and won't fail. Anyways if something breaks, beyerdynamic headphones can be fixed with a screw driver, same goes with most sennheiser products.

You can tell if the headphones have been abused anyway by just the condition of them. If they look beat up they probably were.

It has both USB and analog connection so one can use his preferred type of connection. The headset is partially made of metal, but it is still pretty comfy and light weighted. The sound coming from the 50mm is exceptionally good for a headset of this price range and the mic is also outstanding and it can be removed.

I found some like that for a lot cheaper then the other suggested, and they look rather promising. I think I should have rather asked like this, which is the best value headset below $150? I don't necessarily want to go right below that amount if it doesn't add much value.
