"stock cooler"

and you probably applied the thermal paste wrong.

I am sorry but i applied a big dot right at the centre. Can you explain what might have gone wrong?

yes, the word "big". That's what you did wrong.

Get a decent cooler ($20 really) and do it again.

Resistance = (Ro)*L/A where Ro is resistivity, L is length and A is area. considering the fact that Ro and L are fixed along the cross section, A is the only variable quantity. As R is inversely proportional to A dont you think i should have applied more compound?

Have you not seen a single LTT video about CPU coolers, you apply a small amount about the size of a rice corn.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

Stock cooler just clips in ;)

When you can't even install a stock cooler you shouldn't deal with PCs lol

Pretty sure its screwed firmly

Check if the pins are correctly seated on the back of the board. Also, the TiM should be the size of a rice grain. Maybe get some better paste.

Check out jayztwocents video about thermal paste.  About the only way to affect the cooling that drastically is to put too little on.  I mean, you don't want to drench the socket, but putting to little is much worse than putting too much.

Op, if you have extra TIM, pull the cooler off and take a look at how it spread, make sure it's even and dispersed.  Check that the cooler is snapped all the way in, and Check the fun curve in the bios to see how fast the fan is spinning.

Stock cooler can be really tricky to get to click in for novice users

I believe it is you not doing stock cooler fizing correctly if you have paste in normal amount

But even so 70 c for stock is normal I guess

Not if it used to run at 45C before changing the TIM.

OP, just curious, why did you change the paste in the first place?

Stock cooler is real pain my nails an d fingers were ichy for 3 days after I messed with my old pc?

Took dam effort to mess with that old 8 year mount

I think you may be correct.

However, my anecdotal evidence trumps yours, since I've installed an uninstalled my stock heatsink at least a dozen times from changing coolers, cases, and processors for three different rigs. It goes on like butter.  It floats like a butterfly and cools like a heater...err...wait...that's not right. (But it is correct ;) )   It takes surprisingly more force to snap in than you'd think .

70*C idle is not normal for any cooler.

70 C is not normal, no matter how much thermal paste you use.

I'd make sure the cooler is properly seated - you might need to remove it and reinstall it (there's no special need to redo the paste if you do.

I'd also check to make sure nothing has changed in the BIOS that affects the CPU, such as frequency or voltage. The fastest thing is to just reset the BIOS or Load Defaults.
