I am looking for a GPU and I came across a HUGE discount on GPUs (980ti for the price of 970, 1080 for price of 980). I was wondering, how much performance difference can I gain from going with the 1080 compared to the 980ti. I am a casual gamer who don't really mind gaming at ~30 fps on medium settings (I have only a 1080p monitor) but I prefer cards that are more future proof. Which card should I go for?

real world the 1080 is only about 20ish percent better than the 980ti (+2 additional gigs of VRAM). but if all you're doing is 1080p gaming, the 980ti will probably die before it becomes obsolete. right now i have a Gigabyte Xtreme Gaming 980ti (@1455MHz) and it plays anything at totally maxed graphics (max AA too) pinned at 60 fps all day long.

But how about future titles (GTA 6, Watch Dogs 2, etc.)? Will the 980ti able to handle those?

at 1080p, yes. the 980ti is so severely overkill, ESPECIALLY since your requirement is 30ish fps and medium settings... if i took any game right now, put it on medium settings, and turned off Vsync I'd probably get in the area of 200+ fps on most current games with my 980ti and my 1080p monitor. you have SO MUCH headroom with this card at 1080p.

Now if you wanted to at some point down the line switch to 1440p (it would still work fine here at max graphics for the time being) or 4k (It would struggle a bit at max graphics here) then that's a different story. But a 980ti will laugh at anything 1080p can throw its way for many years to come.
