Please check out my build, this is a 800 - 1000$ build that I am about to buy I am posting it here to get tips or to see if there is something better than what I already have (I would prefer if you can help find parts for a build that has the same power but under 1000$)

if you're just gaming, no need for an i7 6700, an i5 6500/6600k will do just fine. also, don't pair a non-k cpu with a z170 mobo, you won't be able to oc.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

dont get a 960. never get a 960 lol. wait for the RX 480 and see how that stacks up and then if you can get it otherwise get a used R9 390 or GTX 970/980

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I recommend a larger SSD (24gb min) and to get a 6700k so you can overclock.

Jayztwocents has a video on if it is safe:

I don't need a bigger ssd I am happy with the size plus I don't really want to overclock I am afraid of crashing or killing my pc I want to use it for a long time. Also I already have a 2tb hdd in my old pc I am gonna take that and put it on this.

The ram isnt a bad choice but I think you should go with G.Skill Ripjaws 3000 OC Z170 Ram. I have it, and Ithink you should get that not that your ram choice isnt bad or anything.

I see you are going with the 960,but with the release of the new 1070 in upcoming few days, the price of 970 will go down significantly, you should think about that too.

I dont see any fans on the build, consider them too. They are cheap <$15-20.

Consider getting another storage option, maybe another SSD (if you have the budget) or an HDD because 128 GB will fill up fast, probably in a month or so,

Also you might want to buy a Wifi Adapter unless you already have one or planning on using LAN.

Might want to invest a little bit into more like a 750+ Watt supply just probably for future proofing in case if you decide to upgrade later.

The cooler choice isnt bad but consider an AIO Liquid cooler or something and since its 6700K you might wanna OC, just in case, If you dont wanna OC then this cooler should be fine.

I need those 40 PCI-e express lanes.

I get the overclocking thing that OK but the ssd is probably a good idea to get bigger, I have a 120gb and it really is quite small

live off the iGPU and wait for rx 480/gtx 1070 if possible. if you can't, this will be a good choice if you're gonna overclock.

this is already better value and if you get a used 390 or atleast wait for the RX 480 benchmarks you could get even better value, you could also step up the processor to a I5 6600 but IMO its not worth it for just gaming

he added a non-k cpu with a z170 board, so he still won't be able to oc properly.

Then wait for the New AMD polaris, or 1070 and reduce the costs with a cheaper non Z mobo and probably an entry level 4-core Xeon or Hyper threaded Skylake. The only benefit I would say with Xeon will be 40 Pci-e Express lanes so you can add PCi-e Raid SSD, dual graphics and stuff like that without compromising bandwidth + some extra goodies you get with xeon. Keep the clock speeds in mind, Xeons are a little slower clocked compared to consumer CPU.

I need those 40 PCI-e express lanes.

Is a AMd card better at video editing than Nvidia card or what?

at that range an AMD card would do you better for the price

The best way to look at this because this is a question that can go on all day.

The way I look at it, is if you look at AMD vs Nvidia Stocks, AMD is less than <10$/ share while Nvidia is >$50/share.

Both companies are attacking different consumers.

AMD marketing strategy is to appeal to lower end consumers

While Nvidia charges top $$$ for their products while also their performance is a little better to just stay a little ahead but you pay a little more for that little juice.

Its more like what do you like? WHat company appeals to you better?

Personally, my first PC was an AMD CPU and GPU and it sucked, my first laptop was an AMD and I didnt like it, so i switched to Nvidia and Intel which hasnt disappointed me yet, so I am sticking with it, but I cant say this for everyone. Some People like AMD, Some people like Nvidia. Both will get the job done.

I need those 40 PCI-e express lanes.

If I was going to make a choice I would pick a gtx 1070 over the new amd polaris cause there are things that a nvidia card can do for me that a amd card cannot and is there a hyperthreaded core i7?
