In task manager go File > Run new task and type in explorer.exe
If that doesn't bring everything up, kill all instances of explorer.exe and then try and run it again.

If it truly gone you'll probably have to do a repair via install media.

Usually if your explorer crashed, you can do Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the task manager, then click run and write explorer.exe in the run window.

If that doesn't work I'd run a system file check - find the command propmt by clicking browse in the Run window, should be in the System32 folder. Then right click it and choose run as administrator, once the promt is up, write

sfc /scannow

and press enter to run a scan of your system files.

Also, once you get it up and running run a malware check, I've had malware crashing the explorer before.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

ok it finished and it says

"Windows Resource Protection did not find any Integrity violations"

could it be graphics drivers related?

I don't think so. Hmm.

So when you run the task "explorer.exe" it doesn't do anything?

It is. But do try to recover the information on the explorer crash.

Also if you have antivirus, locate its folder in your files and click on any of the executables that are in there. Hopefully that'll bring up the antivirus interface and you can run a scan.

Awesome. When Synapse started running I wondered whether it was a drive issue. Cheers!
