i suppose I should start off with a hello...Hello! I'm new here but have been watching ltt on YouTube and reading the forum here, never bothering to sign up until now. Why you ask? Well the answer to that is simple....I've finally decided to pull the trigger and build a pc. Is been about twelve years since the last time I built one and about seven years since I last used a pc for gaming. So after weeks of debating back and forth with myself over a half decent build under a grand (Canadian) I've finally settled on what I think will be a pretty solid build with a pretty good upgrade path. I should mention I've already purchased the case, motherboard and cpu cooler as they were on sale and I had the scratch to pick em up now. The gtx 960 is a place holder of sorts reflecting the price of what an rx480 will most likely cost in Canada, although if the prices drop far enough who knows what gpu will actually end up in the build. Yeah the cpu is a little on the low end side but it'll do all that I need for the next year or so, plus with the z170 board I should get a decent oc on it so 1080 gaming should be no problem. So I guess what I'm here for is thoughts and opinions, so lay it on me guys!

Everything's fine, but don't expect to overclock with an i3. Buy the os from reddit/kinguin for $20-30usd and use the money saved to get a better psu and an i5 6400/6500.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X Heatsink: Gelid Phantom Black GPU: Palit RTX 3060 Ti Dual RAM: Corsair DDR4 2x8GB 3000Mhz mobo: Asus X570-P case: Fractal Design Define C PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 650W

You don't need a 240mm AIO, you don't need a high end motherboard for that chip, you don't need RAM that fast

also buy a higher quality power supply, and don't buy an OEM copy of windows because it basically only works once

and you should just wait for the RX 480 at the end of the month, because it's basically a 390X/980-Lite at $200 /250, if you aren't going to wait the 380 should cost the same as the 960 but will give you more performance and it has A-sync support unlike maxwell cards

and with all that money saved you could probably almost fit in a 1080p 144hz free-sync display.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Then buy an i5 6600K at least, and all the other stuff I said

that was a bad move though unless it was a really strong sale, as it really wasn't nessisary and would have gotten you a stronger CPU/GPU

Well... Where to start...

I'm pretty well set on getting the rx480, hell if it is as good as they say are I'll eventually end up with two of em which leads to getting a stupidly overkill board but it was a pretty good deal at 169.99 with a 20$ mir...I figure spend now and be good for when kaby lake comes round or upgrade to a better i5/i7.

As far as the aio goes...yeah it's a totally stupid move I agree...but it matched the case and yeah I just like the way it looks ? Plus it's around the same price as a bitfenix prodigy and a hyper212 would've been

im actually really curious about buying windows for way cheaper? How though, like take me by the hand and guide me through the interwebs of hyperspace to the promise land of cheap os. It may sound sarcastic but I'm serious...I guess I should point out I don't currently own a computer...I mean I have a laptop that might work but unless it's like PayPal some guy in Austin 30$ and he'll mail me a USB key of Windows shit I'm down for that.

I just meant that if you're going to buy windows, don't buy an OEM key, because they only work once, and I'd avoid the gray market potentially, and just pick up windows in a storm drain for free somewhere.
