Should I get the new Nvidia GPU's

The 1070 and 1080 are releasing next month and from what i've read, they're really impressive. However, being that this is my first time building a PC, i'm unsure whether i should get the 1070 or not. I'm thinking about the future, and even though the statistical performances exceeds all previous GPU's (except for the 1080), I'm afraid I won't be maximizing its value. Although budget isn't really a worry for me, I would like to save where I can. And other, older cards seem to still be able to handle modern day games at a high FPS too. In your guys' opinions, is the 1070 ($380) worth it, or should I save a bit and go for an older version.

The 1070 performs the same as a 980 Ti/Titan X, so it is very good value. The 1080 is not worth it unless you have a 1440p or up monitor. I would wait and see what AMD offers though.

Do you need to upgrade?

Not considering Polaris?

How much you intend to spend?

For what games and resolution you playing at?

System specs?

This is my first custom PC. I'm a filthy casual gamer, so I don't need need that much power, although I do edit videos for school projects from time to time. But thinking for the future, I do think that the 1070 looks promising, although I want to hear other people's opinions too.

From what I've read, AMD does offer bang for your buck, but I'd prefer investing more for something i definitely won't be disappointed in.

It's probably around $1200. I don't know which peripherals i should get specifically yet, but it'll fit in that budget.

the rx 480 is probably going to push 1080p at 100hz + and if you include a monitor in there it is a little above your budget if you want to edit videos. im putting a list together for you atm.

well I already get super fps with my 980 at 1080p and the RX 480 should perform around the 980's performance. however the 1070 might also be a great buy. depends on what else you can get within the budget. I'd rather build other extra features into my pc than focus on the GPU. like I have a TV card, wifi card, 6 TB of HDD space on my main pc and 2 tb on second pc. for storing all sorts of things in case I don't have internet connection. and I've added a few other things that I specifically like to use.

So if i'm getting 1080p, is AMD that much better? I haven't read much on AMD and my friends recommend nvidia, so thanks for the info!

it's cheaper. the RX 480 costs between 200 - 250 dollars. and will perform great if the product performs as advertised.

only one thing I'd change, the 1 TB seagate drive to a 2 TB seagate drive since the price difference doesn't justify going with only 1 TB storage.
