BUYING TOMORROW

Auxafly

My friend is waiting for the 1070, so he will be getting the 750ti for now. How is the build overall? Will he need to change anything else? For gaming only and budget is $1500.

I'm being extremely nit-picky here but I'd switch that PSU to a EVGA SuperNOVA 550 G2. It's a better unit in most regards.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Don't even get a 750- intel HD graphics is sufficient for the wait.

Because once they get the 1070 the 750 is useless.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

I can game just fine on integrated graphics because right now my graphics card is being repaired so I'm using HD 530.

as for why not- you're chucking money down the drain.

It depends on what game he wants to play.

Definitely get a G2 or B2 as they're better quality but maybe get a 750W to help future proof in case the extra power might be needed.

I'd suggest changing the motherboard to a Gigabyte Z170 gaming 5 or 7.   They're very nice boards and my 7 is working very nicely for me.  The 7 has a few things the 5 doesn't I believe including some auto overclocking features and a button for it on the board itself if your friend is interested in that since they're getting a K CPU.

If you're getting just those non-led af120 fans I'd suggest getting 2 2 packs of them and using 2 for intake and 2 for exhaust.  Or sticking with the one two pack but then finding 2 additional fans to use so you pair 1 af120 with each for intake and exhaust.

Consider changing the 850 EVO to a PRO.  I've heard the 850 PRO Samsung SSDs are a little faster, more consistent with their speed, and last a lot longer than a EVO.  Not to say an EVO is bad but that the PROs don't cost that much more for some worthwhile benefits.  Especially if I'm correct in assuming your friend is going to use the SSD for an OS drive.

Depending on how much storage your friend may need or want you might consider getting a 2 or 4TB Western Digital black HDD.  Unfortunately WD Blue drives are only 5400RPM for sizes larger than 1TB.

The case is a good brand I think so you're fine there but I don't think that model has any optical drive bays so if your friend might want to ever get one or would want to get something like a fan controller or expansion thing for USB or something else then I'd suggest a different case like a NZXT Phantom 240 or one of the other Phantom Mid Towers.  Otherwise I believe corsair is another good brand for cases.

Last thing, the 750 ti is a good placeholder but I'd suggest a Gigabyte one since I almost got an EVGA 750 ti for my secondary desktop but ended up getting a Gigabyte 960 because I'd seen reviews for an EVGA 750ti and 950 that mentioned them having overly loud fans that I'm not sure if there was a reliable fix for.

Sorry if I seem overly critical of the parts you chose TC.  Even if you get what you've picked out your friend will have a good PC.  My intent is to help make it even better.  Regardless of what parts you get good luck with the build.  ?
