Change the motherboard to a Z170. That B150 can't OC.

Also, don't expect to hit 4.6ghz. You may / moy not achieve that, so expect the worse and be mentally prepared for failure, rather than expecting the jackpot and ending up feeling heart broken...

Does you workload actually require a CPU that beefy? the I5 4460 you mentioned in the title is plenty powerful for gaming and general use.

Well, that's a problem with your CPU cooler. Clean the dust out of it or even consider buying a new aftermarket one. Don't go for a whole new CPU if you don't need more performance and the issue is just heat.

Indeed, he's having the heat problems with the 4460, though, which I'm assuming is using stock cooler.

no its the case

Are you sure? Maybe we could get a picture? I don't see how a case alone could cause your CPU to overheat unless it's obscenely poorly ventilated. I would strongly suggest it's a problem with you cooler.

Can't overclock on that motherboard and you'll need DDR4 RAM.

Hmm, though that certainly doesn't look like best best situation for it and might add to the heat a little, I would still blow out the CPU cooler or even get a new one, it will help

ok thanks

Before you even consider getting a new cpu get an aftermarket cooler.

I would suggest the Cryorig h7 as it has better clearance than something like a 212 evo. Just make sure it will fit in the case.

Also for a 6600k you would need a cooler anyway because it doesn't come with one.
