I recently tried to overclock my system (partlist: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ThatRageQuit/saved/4kP2FT) and accidently overvolted without actually applying an overclock, my system booted and not really paying attention I began to benchmark with occt and the system. Quickly BSOD'd. I cleared the failed overclock and then tried a few other overclocks but eventually gave up when heat appeared to be an issue. Since then though my pc has been having issues with randomly shutting down then not wanting to reboot. Occasionally when it shuts down a loud static can be heard through the headphones but not always. I'm wondering if the issue is fixable or did I fuck up my rig. I've cleared the cmos and tested different wall Ports along with flashing the newest bios.

I think you've broken your rig by the sounds of it.

I suck a typing, preparw for typos.

You wont be able to push that CPU too far with that cooler. Best thing I can suggest is take everything apart and slowly build the rig back up and test at each step. Start with mobo cpu ram and boot drive. How much voltage did you put through the CPU btw?

I think if you've damaged anything it will be the CPU, and nothing else. What did you overvolt it to, and what voltage setting is it running at now?

I think the CM 212 EVO is fine for OCing. I run an i5 2500k at 4.6 Ghz with that cooler, and get idle core temps of 34C - 38C, and game-load temps of 60C.

First off, clear your CMOS (the motherboard manual will tell you where a jumper is located to do it quickly, put a screwdriver up to it to connect both pins on the jumper for 10 seconds, or take the big circular battery in the mobo off for a minute then put it in again). See if problems persist.

The 8350 is quite a bit more power hungry than the 2500k to be fair. It might have also been damage to the VRM chips on the motherboard.

This is why it's important to look at temps while overclocking.

Depending on the voltage. Especially with older low end AM3/+ motherboards with small power phases they are been prone to failure with too much voltage. Among the other suggestions i would also visually check the caps, chokes, ect for your power phases.

If you have increased the voltage to much all the other chips etc wont be able to talk to the CPU as it will be running so fast the other stuff has not got time to talk to it. Take out the motherboard batty for 5-10 mins and put it back in and then see if you rig lives. If you have overclocked it with a bad cooler the CPU could be fried. The random shutdowns are likely to be the bios stopping you from overheating the the system. When it dose that wait 10 mins or so so it has chance to cool down a bit first.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
