I don't get it. I studied for 28 hours, just pure hard core reviewing doing problems and asking questions I didn't know. I would even teach other kids how to do the problems. Then when it comes to taking a test I get a D+. That's really bad but I still have a B+ so nothing in the range of failing. I just don't get it. I am confident I know the material, I can do the problems and get the answer right but ever final is just bad.

ngl, when I was at school I just didn't read the question. On my final year of A-Levels, I decided to get my papers back and I was completely shocked.

 

On one of the questions (this was for my last unit of Chemistry, the hardest paper), which happened to be the easiest on the paper, it asked me to draw BBr3. Much to my dismay, I had drawn BF3, which meant that I didn't get the mark. I still got 90% on that paper but still, I failed on the easiest of questions. This continued on with my degree, I'd consistantly score well in everything else but as soon as it came to the easy questions, I'd not read them properly and fail.

 

I'd say that the most important thing is to do loads of past exam papers in the run-up to the exam. This will mean that you're used to the types of questions that they'll throw at you when they're asked. Most exams in my experience (except at degree level) measured physical intelligence rather than knowledge or ability, for example, analysis skills were more important than historical knowledge in History and mathematical manipulation and application was more important in Physics than knowing about Physics.

I also scored a 32 on the science part of the ACT which is 4 away from perfect and average is 21

This is why exams/tests and other types of scoring are complete bullshit - they are an archaic relic wealded by an archaic system. If I'd have paid any attention whatsoever to my own results from roughly the equivalent era then I'd have never entered the software industry - I was even told as much to my face, a number of times. I would have likely have spent the rest of my days driving vans and living in a council estate shithole.

 

Honestly the point is that you just have to do well enough to get past the bullshit and out into the real world; dance for them, say yes sir no sir - cheat, lie and steal your way through. Then you can forget about it all because experience by far eclipses that archaic garbage by which aspirants are weighed measured and found wanting should they not conform to the template in the slightest way.

 

All you need to do is believe in yourself and always seek more.

Alright here is the part where I think I am going wrong. I usually get A's and B's on tests but that is because the material is fresh and only a week or two old. But I never have taken notes in any of my classes. This might be why I have a harder time with older stuff.

So far, my habit for studying two nights before an exam is to write down everything I need to know... This usually takes me an entire night since I try to make sure that my notes are legible... If you have a slideset/textbook to copy stuff from, this will help... but the problem with this technique is that it only noticeably works for objective-type exams...

 

For practical exams, a bit of practice here and there will help. Try to understand each step of the process and don't rush through them... Try to analyze your mistakes from previous tests or exercises...
