So looking at the options for aftermarket 1080's reveals that well I like the Zotac 1080 AMP. Not only is this card black and RGB, it also has 2 8 pins which means much better OC. And sorry in my opininon the new EVGA card is ugly.

Spoiler

Just noticed the yellow backplate, but that can be changed very easily.

I care less about the look and more about the performance.
Not like I'm showing it off to anyone other than my wife and dog.

But this card should perform better. Why?

1. 3 fans is always better than 2 right (jk that doesnt help that much)

2. It has 2 8 pins. Other people where hitting voltage limits with there 1080's so that should help

3. OC FTW

2 8 pins doesn't automatically mean "much better OC"

You're still going to have the same power limitations that the 8 pin one has most likely, the default ~110% or 120% that nvidia makes people set. Because it's in the BIOS, you'll need to modify the BIOS to get the extra power room, which you CAN do to the single 8 pin cards as well.

It's not going to help with voltage limits if the voltage limit has nothing to do with the power connectors lol.

People have already soldered on external VRM boards and still had the issue.

Exactly. So, even if it doesn't look all that "great" as long as it performs, it's worth the pickup price.

So you say wait for the cards with modded bios?

Even with BIOS made by extreme overclockers that have limitations removed, the issue was still present.

It seems like there's either something in the nvidia driver that prevents it, or some sort of circuitry somewhere on the chip that is preventing the overvoltage.

So once they figure out that overclocking limit then buy? Or wait for 1080ti?

I think you should upgrade your CPU, Mobo, Case, and PSU first.

Using that system in your signature and pair it with a 1080 is like buying a Lamborghini when you still live in an old dusty one bed room apartment

You need to get your priorities in life straight.

Case: Fractal Design Meshify C   Displays: 34" LG34UC79G, 24" Dell

If they find a way to fix it, then in theory something like a Classified / Matrix would be best  only if the card actually scales with voltage

Maxwell didn't scale with voltage like at all hardly, especially the big chips.  Maxwell scaled with voltage past a certain point, only if the card was extremely cold

I wasn't actually going to buy it I'm saying it from a standpoint like your view with your i5 and 970.
