Hi. Im a 14 years old teenager from denmark so i was just wondering if this setup that i've been used queit a time thinking on would atleast get 60fps 1440p in most games.

also btw please notice that this is my first pc build, and i've never not really gotten any help or advice from any adults so yeah... i know a little stuff from linus doe..

here is the built:

Intel Core i5 6600K CPU

1tb harddrive

MSI 7978-015R Gaming M3 Intel H170 S1151

MSI ARMOR 2X GeForce GTX 980 TI 6GB

Kingston HyperX FURY 4GB                   (im not sure if this is enough)

Corsair CX750 - 750W PSU

Corsair H100i

Corsair SP Quiet fans

NZXT Phantom 410 Midi Tower Chassis – Black

120gb SDD

so i was wondering if there is something wrong with the built of how i could improve it.. it currently cost around 1000 dollars but it will probally drop to 900 after some few months because of the 1080

and my keyboard/mouse/screen is

razer deathstalker chroma

roccat kone XTD

Samsung 28" 4K UHD

please give me feedback.

have a good and awesome day.

6600 isnt unlocked

6600k is unlocked

the speed difference

thats it really

A 6600 can't be overclocked, a 6600K can. With a 6600K, you'll need a Z170 motherboard to overclock it, which is more expensive than an H170 or H110. You can use an H motherboard with a 6600K, but you can't overclock the chip on it, meaning you're wasting money on the K processor.

I'd also consider a different PSU. The Corsair CX series is solid for light gamers and daily driver PCs, but if you're going to put a serious load on it with heavy gaming, you're going to want a higher quality PSU like an RMx or RMi series.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

yeah ok that's understandable but how big does the overclocking do. i dont know so much about overclocking other than it will make your gpu go stronger than it usually can be and that it will get possibly even more warm.

so now my questions are basically:

How much extra fps will i get when overclocking?

and do i need to buy anything other than the motherboard to overlock?

how do i overclock?

(sorry im pretty new to this)

Search "6600K overclock" and you'll get a good feel for what the chip is capable of. i5's are generally pretty good overclockers, but I've never played with a 6600K myself. There is a principle called the "silicon lottery", meaning that not all CPUs are created equal, and your i5-6600K may not overclock as well as someone else's, or you might be the lucky winner of an i5 that overclocks to 4.7GHz with an air cooler. While increasing clock frequency does increase heat, the real enemy is voltage. You have to increase voltage to increase your clock frequency, but if you go too high, you can damage your CPU pretty badly. If you have proper cooling (and with an H110i, you're off to a good start), you'll have much more ability to overclock than someone who's just using the stock cooler, a cheap Zalman/SilenX heatsink off of Newegg or a 212 EVO (hahaha couldn't resist the cheap shot).

Exact performance increases vary by game and with each different CPU. Sorry I can't be of any more help there; that's just how it is. If you overclock, you'll want to buy an aftermarket cooler for your CPU, like the Corsair you've got there. If you purchase a non-K chip and you're not going to overclock, that Corsair is a waste of money and can be skipped in favor of the stock cooler that's included with your CPU.

As far as how you overclock, in fifty words or more: go into BIOS and raise your CPU's multiplier and test it. If the system crashes, you need to up the voltage. If it's stable, keep upping the multiplier. The endpoint for an overclock comes either because you've pumped as much voltage as you're comfortable with into the CPU, or because temperatures are as high as you're willing to let them go. It's long, tedious and sometimes a bit scary, but worth it in the end as long as you know your hardware's limits, respect them, and don't do anything dumb that's going to fry stuff. There are several great tutorials on Youtube, including a few by Linus. Hope that helps give you a little primer into what you're walking into. :)

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
