So, im going to buy a 1070 and im assuming the coolers will be the same as on the 1080.

So there is either the:

EVGA SC http://www.evga.com/articles/01007/evga-geforce-gtx-1080/

MSI gaming X https://eu.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1080-GAMING-X-8G.html#hero-overview

Zotac AMP https://www.zotac.com/product/graphics_card/zotac-geforce%C2%AE-gtx-1080-amp-edition

MSI armor https://eu.msi.com/Graphics-card/GeForce-GTX-1080-ARMOR-8G-OC.html#hero-overview

What one should i get? IM doing a black and white build!

Any ideas on the price on them? in £ please :D

i'd personally try to hunt down a used GTX 980ti on the cheap...same performance as GTX 1070 at lower price.

then i would get a GTX 1070 with a 3rd party cooler...do not overspend for an overclocking board (FTW, classified, extreme gaming etc.) cause it's not worth it for a chip with like 150W TDP. But a good dual fan cooler is always handy as it will help the card running cooler and quieter without breaking the bank.

EDIT: that cute MSI card is nice...if it's priced well i would go with something like that...or EVGA's base dual fan model for example.

im from the uk and the 1080s are round £620 so if it was me i would get a brand new 980ti lower price and the 1080 is only 15% faster at a push imo and get an evga card they have the best customer service + i got 10 year warranty with my card :)

well..this is to allow for more extreme overclocks...but a single 8 pin is enough to push this chip to it's max possible clocks...that's why i would suggest saving the money and not go with these overbuilt overdesigned cards for a 1070 chip.

My 970 SC was a crap overclocker because of a weak 4+1 phase VRM, and the 1080 SC looks to have a minimal 5+1 phase VRM just like reference. But hopefully the 1070 FTW will have a strong pcb like the 1080 FTW which is 10+2 phase.

I can only get +51 MHz on the core for my 970 SC, and that still crashes every once in a while too.

i think the FTW card is an 8 phase board with dual 8pin for power...it should be pretty good for those who want to push a GTX 1080 to it's limit.

But the 1070 is significantly cut down...and with 33% less cuda core i highly suspect a 5 phase board with a single 8 pin to be able to reach max clocks in most cases...

Mine was really hot, reaching 82 under load, not normal for a 970, and the max OC was 1460. But my 970 g1 runs at 60 degrees at the same fan speed as the SC(1600rpm) but overclocked to 1550 mhz.

I made that mistake with the 150W GTX 970, getting a 4+1 phase board. And while everyone and their mother could get 1500 MHz on the 6+1 phase cards like EVGA SSC, Gigabyte G1 Gaming, MSI Gaming, etc, I couldn't set mine to a higher boost clock that 1367 MHz. I'll never buy the crap pcb cards again to save $30 or so.

my bad :) yes coolers will or should be the same with from board partners and prices will be around the £400 - £450 for sure since people are saying the 1070 is between the performance of a 980 and 980ti "apparently"

BTW i still stand by my opinion on getting the EVGA cards best customer service ive dealt with + top warranty goes along way in my books :) good luck on you're decision

The default fan curve is terrible, mine would go to 76C pretty easily before I changed the fan curve to keep it in the 60s C. It's loud, but I run a big box fan in the summer anyways which drowns out the sound from the card.
