My First MSI build need help

Go to solution Solved by _ASSASSIN_,

couple things, one, get a higher speed ram module, as it would be a pretty big bottleneck at the stock speed, also get a GTX 760 as it's just a better 660ti
for the powersupply, go for a corsair, seasonic, or XFX power supply with a wattage of 500-550 watts

Hello everyone

am new here and i find it great to be with you all.

anyway I start build my own pc not a while ago and i want it to be just a gaming monster

it's not complete yet cuz i have a little problem with the watts so i don't wanna get any power supply with wrong amount of watts

so here what my pc build is :

Motherboard : MSI Z77MA-G45

Cpu : Intel Core i5 3570 @ 3.40GHz

Ram: Kingston 8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz

HD: 500 Western Digital WDC (SATA)

now all that is left is the power supply and the Graphic card

and am thinking about getting MSI GeForce GTX 660 Ti Power Edition

but not sure about the power supply i really need help with this

and does the size of the pc case matter or anything will be ok?

any suggestions i'll be glad to hear it , should i change anything or add anything ?

I really appreciate the help :)

This, but get a 750 watt powersupply so you don't have to upgrade in the future if you want multi-gpu or extra headroom.

750 is way too much considering he has a 3570 non-k and only one Harddrive and PSU, if he needed extra GPU upgrade support, go for 650 watt

He has obviously chosen 1333mhz DDR3 (effective double data rate of 667mhz), but that does look confusing as most people use the "DDR" speeds.

Choosing 1333-2400mhz will not see much difference in performance, a few percent at best... Overclocking CPU's also bring memory controller issues of not reaching rated speeds when CPU is pumped higher.

Stick with the norm 1600-1866mhz DDR3 and you'll be fine, while its ALWAYS ONLY a FEW Percent, most people still steer clear of 1333mhz unless its a budget build.

That CPU will probably not top over 120w even when overclocked, and will run between 15-90w in most peoples cases... (CPU info from Websites usually tell you the TDP)

The GPU probably uses between 160-220w (Not exactly sure but comparing it against my 7950)

The extra items, and their power requirements can vary... But fans and HDD/SSD's to not take a lot of power, under 10w each.

Usually for a single GPU system, 650w or less, starting from 450w quality PSU's (branded reliable gear)

Dual GPU systems usually PSU's in excess of 650w-1000w (depending on chosen parts)

Usually you give a little overhead to provide for expansion, maybe swapping out some parts for higher end gear...

With that in mind, take more than you need, but never go overkill.

I didnt answer your question directly with a "Number of watts" however understanding basic power consumption from each part can help too:"

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

If you want ultimate gaming, you'd want to spend more on the gpu than the cpu.

On the size of the case, look up the form factor of the case, most regular cases support micro ATX, but you can check in the specs.

For the graphics and PSU:
Get a 7950 or something like that because they are so great for the price.

I Agree to get a lower wattage power supply; anything between 500-600 watts is perfect. Look into a fully modular one though (makes cable management a breeze)

Intel i7-3770k @ 4.5 GHz                               DCUII GTX 680                            16GB Corsair Vengeance RAM

Sabertooth Z77 ATX                                      WD Caviar Blue 500GB+ 1TB      Corsair Obsidian 750D

Corsair TX850M Watt PSU                            Bad Custom Water Cooling          Samsung 840 Pro SSD

people always over estimate power usage

i am running an i5-750 @ 3.8ghz, a GTX 680, 5 hdd's, 2 ssd's, a 27 and 24 inch screen, water pump, and some lights and peak out at 460 watts from the wall under full load (while folding with both cpu and gpu with both screens on) and i am using a 850watt silver psu.

so for what you looking at a 500-550 watt psu should be good, just look at its power curve but if your not folding or always doing super intensive work, it should be fine. at stock speed your 3570 wont use more power then my old i5

hell my little amd 635 x4 cpu with a 22inch screen, a GTX 460, with a 650w silver psu (with all the other stuff like switch, router and cable modem) doesn't pull more then 280w while folding from the UPS...

All of life is forged from Hell, Yet from its beauty our legacy began.
 My Boinc Stats

Spoiler

CPU : I7-4790K, MB : ASUS Maximus VII Hero, Ram : Vengeance Pro 32gb, GPU : Asus Strix GTX 1070, PSU : XFX 850w Black Edition
