Hi,

First time building a PC from scratch. I have everything down just need to know what PSU I should be getting.

I was thinking of going with a 850W PSU for the following:

I7-6700K OCed to 4.8 GHZ
Asus VIII Hero mobo
850 W Corsair (I) or 1000W
DDR 4 Corsair 3200 MHZ RAM (OCed as high as I can)
2 X 1080 TIs in the future (assuming they are 250W like the 980 TIs some people tell me aftermarket cards have higher wattage requirements). Until then, I will likely grab a 1080 or a 980 TI SLI (but I do not want to have to change my PSU later so I want to buy for everything now). I will be SLIing the GPUs
A half dozen Hard Drives (1 M2, 2 HDD, 3 SSD).
A 100i or 110i Corsair CPU liquid cooler.
A decent number of 140 mm fans to fill up my Corsair 760 T Case.

Thanks!

Just go for the biggest wattage you can afford, then it gives you room for adding more hardware later.

nah, because if I had a pc that needed under 300 watt, and I was rich, you basically told me to get like a nuclear generator or power plant in my house

Well, now you're reading this, I might as well inspire you with a deep quote

Are you sure it is enough for overclocking? I thought it would be more like 850 or 1000W

I believe it should suffice given that I have used 500w for an oc'd i7, oc'd 380, Intel 520, 850evo and 5 hard drives.

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Especially with SLI?

Yeah, 750W will run your system (a 6700K and 2 1080 Tis in SLI won't pull more than 650 W out of the wall, but you don't want your power supply to be 100% loaded, so 750 is fine).

That is incredible. I thought Overclocking eats up power like crazy.

It does, compared to stock power consumption. The i7 consumes 100W when not overclocked but can pull as much as 200W if you push the voltage.

The 1080ti does not exist yet, if it ever will. We do not know how much power it will need and therefor you should not plan to buy them quite yet. 1000W will almost certainly be way more than enough for them but, again, we don't know yet. The 1080 uses more power than a 980 if I recall correctly so the ti, if there ever is such a thing, will probably be a bit on the hungry side.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Leaked info suggests that the TDP for at least the founders edition (perhaps not the aftermarket cards) will be about 250 W TDP like the 980 TI, I'm pretty confident on this so I am going with it. 1080 uses about 180 W TDP. Do you think that I need 1000W?

There's no leaked info on the 1080ti. If you're finding any "leaks" then you're finding false information thrown around the internet. Also, TDP =/= power consumption.

850W is plenty for two 980tis but who knows if I'll be recommending a 1000W PSU for two 1080tis in December or so?

Thanks. Is it plenty for OC as well?

850W? Yeah, assuming the GTX 1080Ti is similar to the GTX 980Ti in terms of power consumption, it'll be more than enough.

Even if I overclocked my CPU, RAM, and SLIed GPUs?

I've never seen a benchmark showcasing a 980Ti SLI setup consuming more than 650W. So yeah, you're well within the safe zone.
