Hyper 212x high temps

RRGT19

Specs:

  • i7-6700k at stock speed
  • 16gb 2x8gb 3200mhz
  • asus z170i pro gaming
  • corsair ax860i
  • 850 evo 1tb
  • fractal design define nano s

28-30 C idle

78-82 C load

I'm using Asus RealBench to test the Hyper 212x, why I'm having these high temps?.

This is my first Hyper 212x and the mounting mechanism was hard to understand and install for me, but I think that it's installed properly.

I have used Noctua's thermal paste and the BIOS is up to date.

Any advice?.

Are your fans orientated correctly on the cooler?
Do you have a cooling profile that keeps the fans from high RPM's until it hits 80+?

I have a 212x and my max temps go up to about 50 - 60 while doing heavy gaming. I have a 4970 though so not sure about temp differences between 4th and 6th gen. How do you mean the mounting was difficult? I also noticed that the mounting was a bit difficult at first.

And yes, the 212 Evo isn't the easiest to mount.
It took me some time to get mine on as well.

1. Yes.

2. I have the fans configured as Standard in BIOS.

I'm not sure what the profile in the bios is set to. It could be 100% @ 80c.
Did you install AI Suite II that should have came with your board?
I would do that and change the profile to amp the RMP's up when the CPU hit's 70c.
Or if the bios has a more aggressive fan profile, I'd adjust it to that.

You really can't use too much thermal paste.
It's more about using too little that would be an issue.
So long as the entire chip is covered, you're good.

Try reseating the cooler and making sure the screws are fully and evenly tightened.
