Ever since the Asrock x99e-itc/ac mobo came out I've basically been drooling about it ever since (even though x99 is a bit overkill for itx, but hey why not.)

I'm selling my old PC and I'm looking to make an itx build so it will be easy to bring to LAN parties etc, I've always loved the idea of tiny powerful builds.

What CPU and case do you think I should get for the build? Lian-li has a lot of stuff to offer and I was thinking of the Tu-100 and the mini 970 for a graphics card, but with the 1080 and 1070 just around the corner I should probably be looking for a full sized graphics card to fit into a good looking case that is as small as possible.

My budget is around £1000, but can stretch a little to £1200~

I already have storage settled with an m.2 950 pro so hard drive space and more general cable clutter shouldn't be an issue.

Any tips, discussions and recommendations would be much appreciated :D

if its x99, then just get the 5820k or broadwell e equivalent. for the case, i always go for the node 202, though that lian li case looks pretty good for your use case

Is the m.2 included in the budget?

at that budget i wouldnt go for a nvme ssd. its just way too expensive.

6800k is the broadwell part which replaces the 5820k and we will see how much the custom gtx 1080 will cost.

Too lazy, is there even a M.2 on that Asrock X99 ITX?

And it uses narrow ilm socket so cpu fan is limited. I think they provide one and Noctua has a ilm mounting clip.

Yes it does have a m.2 slot which makes me a happy man, and I did presume for the time being until I get a little bit more cash that it'd have to be using the server stock fan that ASRock give you, but apparently it isn't that bad.

I know it has more cores, but won't it be a bit less powerful than the 6800k?

Also with the build you sent, the phanteks is a beautiful case, but it's a little big but I know that's probably so it can fit the new nvidia graphics cards, but isn't there something smaller?

well the 6800k isnt released yet but i doubt its going to be as fast as a 8core. it would need to archieve very very high overclocks which is normally the thing of the more expensive 6core part.

but it will be faster for gaming.

there are smaller cases but they arent isolated as well and you will have trouble fitting the cooler. i think an old gen cm seidon 120v can fit on that mobo too but im not sure and they dont sell it anymore.

I know but gaming is a big factor for me (don't yell and say I should get a i7-6700k and scrap x99 for gaming) Well I could just pray they make a 1070 mini itx edition like they did for the 970 so I can use a really small lian-li case, but I'm doubtful.

A really small case and preferably a good looking one is what I'm looking for.

This has caught my interest, then I realised it won't be that clean looking with the power supply and cables everywhere, and it's almost as big as the prodigy which I think is a little too big.

Really quite stuck here on what to choose :c

It's a lovely looking case, but  230 mm x 375 mm x 395 mm (W x H x D)

That's pretty darn big

if you want something smaller looking good. you probably need to do it yourself.

I had a feeling that might be the case.

I'll look at some silverstone cases now, but I might just have to go with the prodigy even though I think it's far too big..
