I don't think ANY i7's support more than one i7 on the same motherboard.

I know AMD had 4 CPU motherboards for Opterons, I think intel has quad CPU boards for their Xeon range too.

Yup. Why would anyone need 16 cores in 4 chips while you can have one 22 core CPU... Only Xeon E7s have mobos with so many sockets... And you have to buy them with a chassis (I think supermicro has one). And of course Amd has (I think I've seen one with 6 sockets, but take it with a pinch of salt as I am not sure)

Well, CPUs for SMP (That is two or more CPUs working together) are specific, it has to be supported by the CPU (Xeons only) and for more advanced stuff (4 way SMP) you need very high end chips that might cost as much as 5000+ freaking Us $

Plus if we are talking Xeons... NEVER buy an E7 just don't they have specific proprietary sockets and you pay extra for some shit that benefits scientists... E5s fit in the enthusiast platform motherboards and are thus cheaper

So... isn't this thread about multi-socket platforms :P?

Yup, just saying that, well, it isn't cheap... Just watch the 8 gamers one CPU and you'll get the point... Motherboard case PSU and CPUs 15000$ approximately... And he is using E5s! Imagine 4 CPUs, it would be about 25000$. Ridiculous ?
