Looking for better cooling so I can oc

Quote16

Hey all, I'm on an old q6600 that still can do things pretty well but I recently bought a 750ti and I can feel the bottlenecking in games because I know it can do better. I need a new cooler but I don't want it to be 775 specific because I'm going to be building a new PC this summer. What are some good universal coolers (they can be air or liquid but I probably can't get liquid right) for about $53? I was looking at the hyper 212x but I feel like there's something better out there

the hyper 212x its pretty solid, and easly the best air cooler until you get to something like a v8 or a nh d15, plus it accepts pretty much every socket out there, which is what you are looking for, now for about $50 you could get the more basic aio's, single radiator with half width, but if i were you i would get the 212, zero hassle and easy to install

Forgot to add in the post that I don't know a single thing about watercooling but it seems easy enough. Anyway is it worth it to get the 212x over the 212 evo or is the difference between them negligible enough to go with the cheaper one?

Not the least bit true. Not the absolute least bit true. Cryorig, beQuiet, Phanteks, Noctua, Deepcool and Scythe all make superior coolers in the $30-60 range.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

But are they universal and compatible with 775?

The 212 really does a good job cooling.  I find it loud.  These will do a good job and are quieter:

Have you used that one yourself? Not challenging you, I'm just genuinely curious about its performance.

I haven't used the specific heatsink but I have experience with Thermalright's fans including the one on the True Spirit 140. It's quiet, performs well, and is probably the best cooler under $50 right now.
