New build - turns straight off???

Bombdecay

I've just put together my first build and when I push the power button I get a click, the CPU fan spins for about a second, then there's a 'ping' noise and it shuts off.

I've tried reconnecting the cables and RAM but its still happening.

Anyone any idea what it could be? I'm hoping it's something simple I've missed!

The CPU could be overheating. Did you remember to peel the plastic cover off the CPU cooler? is it installed properly?

I didn't see any plastic on the cooler, it's a stock Intel one with the thermal paste already applied. I also didn't notice if there was any plastic on the CPU itself, would there have been!?!!?

Nope just a ping noise from somewhere.

Thanks for the replies.

I gave up last night and, after 4 hours sleep (late night computer building and early rising kids are a bad combination!), I tried disconnecting and reconnecting all the cables again this morning and it works!!!!

In not sure what was loose or wrong but something must have been, or maybe it's just the coffee that helped!

So thanks again to those who replied.

I'm sure I'll be back her soon...... but hey it's all fun :)
