Window Server 2012 Web Server?

What software should I use for a web server on my window server 2012 ?

Use the Web Server Windows Role (IIS). Sure you can install apache but there really isn't a reason to unless you have a module/plugin that only works with that.

Can you elaborate a bit on what exactly you want to use the web server for?

 

If you just need to host a very basic website, and you're going to use the Server 2012 install for other things as well (NAS, etc), then just use the IIS Role, as @leadeater describes.

 

If you need a bit more advanced stuff, you can install PHP and SQL too, but I would limit it to the basics if you don't need anything else.

Ehhhh, if he really needed the features of an AMP server, he might as well just do a full LAMP server. We should see what his actual needs are first, before adding in additional potentially unnecessary complexity.

Friends dont let friends run Apache/PHP on Windows for Production environments. 

Stand up an IIS stack if you require it for .NET - otherwise use Hyper-V to create a virtual environment and stand up a proper LAMP stack with whatever webserver suits your needs
