Hey guys.  I'm currently in the market to replace my aging Alienware M11xR2 and I'm thinking about going Ultrabook.  I don't need a graphics powerhouse anymore in a laptop just basically looking for portability/battery while ability to run maybe a VM or two.  I know Linus swears by the Aspire S7 from Acer and that's looking pretty attractive.  Any other opinions?  My main concerns are battery life so that it will last me through a work day.

Acer Aspire S7, Samsung ATIV Book 9 Plus (meh iGPU, but it gets the job done), Macbook Air.

The Samsung has a 3200x1600 IPS display, but $400 more or so.

Macbook Air is the same specs and price as the Aspire S7, but longer battery life.

Die! zenbook

The new Zenbook will be expensive.

1440 IPS, i7 + Iris Pro?

He doesn't need that much power.

Die! zenbook

The new Zenbook looks good but it doesn't launch for another 2 months and no one has any idea what price will be like not to mention the fact that the specs from Computex and IFA have me thinking it'll be expensive.   I've thought about the ATIV Book 9 but I can't really justify the extra money for the high res screen especially at that size.  And not buying anything with a half eaten fruit logo on it.  It's just principle.  Plan was to throw the m11x on something like ebay or amazon marketplace and try to get maybe $300 or so for it to help buffer the price.

What is your budget? You should check out the Zenbook for sure. Maybe even the Samsung Series 9 if you have the money for it (though not sure if they've fixed the trackpad issue yet or not). For a budget ultrabook, I've heard good things about the Lenovo U310.

I can go up to $1300, probably can live with the extra $15 or so that the S7 would cost.  Should I wait for the new Zenbook?

EDIT:  Think I'm going to go for the S7 after all.  Thanks guys.
