Choosing a motherboard

Hello LTT community. I want to get some advice about my first build.

I'm looking for a LGA 1151 motherboard. My budget for the motherboard is around 130-140$.

Thank you in advance.

PS. I'm not planning on overclocking.

@XjjchanX

You're able to go well below your $130~140 budget since you're not planning to overclock or anything.

First off, what size are you looking for? mITX, mATX, or ATX?

I'm just looking for a standard ATX motherboard.

Some helpful tips.

  • It doesn't matter who you get it from. Brand loyalty is a silly thing in general motherboard space.
  • Get something that fits your case (mITX, mATX, ATX?)
  • Make sure it has all the ports you want both internally and on the I/O panel.

Thanks for replying.

Yeah I think Brand loyalty is also a silly thing. It's just that there are so many different motherboards too choose from and this is my first build so I want to do it right :D.

Oh one more then now that you mention it...

If you see two or more boards that have virtually the same features and different in price slightly, chances are they're exactly the same thing just with whatever flavor of the month that board maker decided to tack on, so just get the cheaper one.

Another thing to be careful of. Make sure that whatever motherboard you decide on, you get the correct RAM for it. Seeing as its a skylake build, the motherboards should either have ddr3 or ddr4. Get the correct one. Just a reminder :)
