First, it doesn't mean it will go into houses directly, it might be for ISP's routers. Also, if you don't mind to cut some for yourself, then you can earn a bit :D

and since your in nz it will take a year to get it fully hooked up to your house. Trust me I've been there

Yeah, it was 2 months ago when they said work would start on our street within a month. But it's something at least.

True, a couple of tips if you want to get hooked up quicker.  1.  Keep in regular contact with your ISP and Chorus depending on where you are at in the install. If something doesn't happen in the time frame they say be in contact asap 2. Write everything down that they say will be done so if they change something you have something to go back to 3. If Chorus cannot put the fibre box thing(cant remember what its called) where you want ie(next to your router atm). Run a CAT 6 cable to where they will put it so you wont get charged to run the cable or having your router in a shit location 4. If you care about your property take photos before the install as they will make a mess and it can take a while to get cleaned up ie digging up paths/grass
