looks good except I'd pick the newer 4670K and a different motherboard. The Asus Maximus Extreme is way overkill for what you are going to do and way too expensive. Get something like an MSI Z87 GD 65 Gaming would. It is also red which seems to be your color scheme.

The graphics card, i am assuming you are meaning a 560 Ti is old and you get way better stuff for your (really big) budget.

The WD Caviar Black is a waste of money, get a WD Blue or Green.

CPU cooling could also be done by air, but that's your choice

who cares...

@Tommy Nguyen

$60 over your budget but this should suffice: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1HsLM

IMO it's okay to pick the i7 for a 1700 build. i also chose 16 GB or RAM because this budget allows. For the graphics card there really is only one choice. Maybe AMD will add a second choice today.

Because the budget allows doesn't mean you should go for it. If it's for gaming only, don't go for the i7 or 16Gb of RAM. Absolutely no noticeable difference in gaming, it's just a waste of money. That money would be better spent on gaming periphericals, like a good mechanical keyboard, a mouse and maybe some headphones. That would make a better difference to his gaming 'experience' than an i7 and too much RAM.

@Tommy Nguyen, if you do some 3D or video editing/rendering intensively, then it's worth it. Considering you chose an i5 and 8Gb of RAM in your original build, I don't think you do that ;)

On budget and includes windows 8 if necessary. SLI ready.

I would advise you to wait until mid October until AMD releases R9 290X series as it will be better if it's at the same price of the GTX 780, if not it should at least force some price drops.

Okay makes sense, i thought 1700 would be enough for i7 16 gigs and a gtx 780, so what more to expect, huh? But peripherials are a good point.

If it wasn't for periphericals then yes, what else to add, but because he has a budget of 1700 doesn't mean it has to be maxed. It's much wiser to keep ~200$ for games, possible upgrade in the future and stuff like that. Even though 4770k + 16Gb is more 'top grade' than i5 + 8Gb, if it's not going to make a difference, no point adding it just to max out the budget.

That is bad advice and it wasn't even in budget 8gb and an i5 are plenty for gaming :)

You might want to wait for new GPUs to come in stores, but if you want this GPU, act quickly, since it might get sold out pretty quickly. Replace the H100i stock fans with the SickleFlows.

Similar idea. Replace case fans and stock h100i fans. Front 2 140mm intake, rear 120mm exhaust. Crossfire ready.
