does it matter how many ram sticks i have because am going to buy 4GB, Ballistix Tracer and later on buy another or should i just wait and buy a 2 stick pack

it does mot matter, you can use one stick  and it would work perfectly.

Try to get two sticks of 2gb so you can use dual channel. Or buy that 4gb stick twice now. IMHO. One stick will work fine tho.

but on a serious note, get a 1 stick 4GB and then upgrade later

1 stick of RAM will work fine. However I would strongly recommend that you try to get at least 2 sticks of RAM that way you can take advantage of dual channel operation.
