Windows 10 Reinstall

So, I have a computer that is broken OS wise. It had Windows Vista installed on it at first, according to the BIOS, but then was upgraded to Windows 7 later. Then, when Windows 10 came out, it was then upgraded to that. Now, after the OS decided to kaput, I'm thinking about reinstalling Windows, however, will I need the Windows 7 product key to reactivate Windows 10? The computer is a hand-me-down so I'm not quite sure if the Windows 7 box is still somewhere in my house.

you can clean install windows 10 and it will activate itself

no need for any keys

Search for 'Reset this PC' to find the in-OS re-install. If you use that, you won't be prompted for a key. After you're done, you should create a recovery disk / USB stick (search for 'create recovery drive') so you can get your OS back later on if you can't access it.
