I'm planning on upgrading my PC this summer and will be getting the new 1080 once it comes out, i will also be replacing my 1080p 60hz monitor for a new 1440p 144hz one. the only thing that im concerned about is the fact that i will most likely not be at a constant 144 fps while gaming and so i'm wondering if having FPS than the refresh rate will cause tearing like it does when the FPS is too high? the only other option i see is to shell out another $200 to get one with G-sync, tho i would prefer not to. thanks for any help :)

yeah any time your fps doesnt match the monitor refresh rate screen tearing is possible

a lot of the time it isnt noticeable though

depends on the game

It's not that big of a deal on 144hz monitor. The tearing will be there, but it will be on there for less than half the time it normally would be on 60hz.
