i'v built a pc,with a hdd with os. the problem is that it won't boot the hard drive. i wanted to buy a new windows key, but my dad didn't allow that to happen (because he's a f*cking dick). this means that i won't be able to use my pc for school, (light) gaming and videoediting.

pc specs:

motherboard: asus m5a78l-m/usb3

cpu: fx 6300

gpu: gtx 750ti

ram: 10 gb

hdd: 1tb random hdd(with os installed)

psu: 350 watt

os: windows 10

i can see the hdd in the bios, but when it reads it it won't boot. when i use fdisk in freedos (included in driver disk) it'll show that it is non-dos and it's not active. btw the issue isn't that easy to solve, i've already tried a couple of things.

the  bios is up to date(version 2101). the hdd is older than the motherboard so maybe i have to install drivers or an older bios version

thanks in advance! ; )

How is buying a new Windows Product Key going to help your computer from not booting?

Why don't you just fix the issue?

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

Give the full step process of what you did and what isn't working. Reinstalling windows with the same key isn't an issue. It isn't a one use thing, its a multi-use-on-the-same-system thing.

I just realised, are you saying you bought a HDD with windows pre installed?

If this is the case, then you need to install Windows.  Follow the guide in my signature.

i've tried different sata slots, linux os, in the bios i tried to change the order of booting up (first hdd then cd), i can't change the settings of the hard drive.

If you have access to another system, create a windows bootable media on a usb stick and reinstall windows. You don't need a serial to install windows but it will be a "non-genuine" copy. Find the key from the pre built or whoever you bought it from. Theres a number of things the issue could be down too so its safer just to reinstall.
