Hi there! im a "experienced" desktop user and i have little experience with notebooks.

But now i got an trash notebook from my mother (lol) only to use it as an steam link. The notebook is an HP 2000 219dx (ugh!) but it runs pretty well steam games from my desktop (4790k, 16gb ram and 980ti sli)

The PROBLEM:

When i turned it on, the bios and windows, recognized 6gb ram (2 sticks, one 4gb and another one 2gb) But i got only "usable" ram of 1.6gb. First i tough it was only an msconfig, but after trying to mess a lot with configs (and it didnt work) i decided to open.

Well, the 2gb stick works perfectly, but the 4gb didnt boot the machine in any way (tried to use a stick per time)

The only way to boot with the 4gb, its using it paired with the 2gb, but llike i said, i dont get all "usable" ram, only 1.6 when it should be 6gb

After that, my first tough was a defective 4gb stick, but it was not! i tried in a newer notebook, and it worked smooth.

The 4gb stick in question is a markvision 1333mhz, ddr3 sodimm ram.

Any idea why this happens?

Dont say that... it makes mine too! lol... i dont like crap harware too... i dont really have use for a notebook, besides using it to transmit my steam (i dont think it worth spend  1500 us in a notebook that will run like a crap compared to my 980ti sli)

But i think i will end buying an decent laptop... but not now! now i need to make this memory work, or at least understand why it dont

Is the 2GB stick a 2Rx8 or 1Rx8 and same for the 4GB stick?

Well after furter investigation, i discovered both sticks (2gb and 4gb) where 1rx8.

The 4gb 1rx8 stick there is no way to work on this laptop, but work on another newer laptop.

i took one 4gb 2rx8 from a newer laptop, and this one worked on my crappy one

i think the 1rx8 4gb stick seens to be imcompatible with my laptop
