Lipo repair

As I am still a novice FPV pilot, I just flew into a metal sign. I lost video and the damn thing wouldn't turn on, but I discovered that my 3s Lipo was at fault when I tried my 4s pack. However, when I fiddled around with the wires leading into the pack, I pushed them in a bit, plugged 'er in and she powered right up. Now I can't imagine this is safe, a loose wire in a Lipo, does anyone have any tips or a guide as how to safely make sure this doesn't happen again? Thanks!

Now of course, I can't stop you from doing this altogether, so I would say if you really needed to mess with that lipo battery, solder the wire so it is no longer loose and cover it in some electrical tape.  It will likely be more of a band-aid approach but it is safer than leaving a loose wire in the pack

I'm thinking about just leaving it like that and waiting for my other 4s packs to come in (fucking hobby king) but I think I might be able to cut back the heat shrink, resolder the connection, and cover it with electrical tape. Do not fuck with lipos. A friend had a damaged lipo and while charging unattended, he almost burned down the house, the thing caught on fire. Don't be cheap, find a way to properly dispose of this faulty lipo (some kind of electronic waste disposal) and get a new one. The little that you might profit is not worth the risk of damage it could do if you fail.

Bruh, I know that Lipos are dangerous, that's why I'm not just going ham with my soldering iron.

IMO if you have experience with soldering and can do it outside with a garden hose nearby, go ahead and do it. Although if you can't fulfill one of those requirements, don't even try it.

Well, I've built two quads now, there's a shit load of soldering there. But I feel like I should probably get rid of it. I have no clue where to take it though.

Well I've never opened up a Lipo and I do have a general rule not to solder with live wires, but I think I can do it. What are the discharge wires connected to? Is there a little PCB, or do they just disappear into the cells?

This varies by cell pack to cell pack, so I cant conclusively answer that question. Some have a PCB they are attached to, some are just straight connected. I reccomend cutting off the heat-shrink and making a drawing of how the packs are connected, You will be able to see where the wires go then. Then solder it back together based on how the pack is connected. Also, the discharge wires are the two really thick red and black wires. Those ones will put out the +11.1v that is required to power the quadcoptor.

Okay, I'll have to hope Lumeniere went the extra mile to solder in a PCB. Also, giving a little tug on the discharge wires still allows current to flow and my quad will power up (I know what the discharge wires are, that's why I referenced them :P) but I "fixed it" by pushing them back into the pack. I'll hope for the best, but if it gives me any more trouble, I'll be sure to give it a shot. Thanks!

Please do not try to put a lithium fire out with water... it creates a fairly explosive reaction as it produces hydrogen.

That's true, my rather shitty high school chemistry class has taught me that lithium reacts in water, bonding to oxygen and releasing hydrogen.

Yeah just toss it. Anything to do with messing with LiPos is usually bad. Soldering, cutting wires, or opening it up. All equals a big explosion in your face
