i am wanting to buy the 1080 around septemeber as it is my birthday and i was planning on selling my 970 ssc and was wondering if there will be a price drop on it when pascal drops??

970's are selling for ~$230 on hardwareswap and eBay and prices are still dropping due to 1070 and 1080 hype.

Whether they'll keep dropping and or come back up after benchmarks are still unclear.

even now ... without Pascal on market

people in Canada are already selling 970s from $250 - $300

Did gtx 770 devalue when 970 drop? Pretty sure it did.

 

Simple economics, when pascal released there will be, and already is, a large amount of people selling their old cards to get the new ones. That increases supply, and when demand for 970 is not that high compared to supply, prices go down

i would sell now but i want to keep my 970 until new see custom cards on what the prices are like on them

They'll be $380-$450.

The 970 is going to become a midrange card just like the 770 became once the 970 released and 290/290x got huge price cuts.

Of course there will be- and already is. I saw several being sold by a reputable seller on eBay the other day for £205. I just sold my 980 for £275, which in the circumstances is passable.

I suggest you look around on eBay. There's plenty going for around that price. Note this is GBP, not US dollars.

I dont trust myself on Ebay, always feel like im going to end up with a like a 730 if i try to buy a 980.

thats so low i brought my 970 for 275

I looked at it a bit different.  My main rig runs 980TI in sli, so Pascal allowed me to sell of my 980 ftw (375 on ebay) from another rig to play around with the new cards.  In my mind this was a good way to not run and fire sale my tis but still be able to test and see exactly how much better the 1080 might be.  The one interesting tidbit in my mind is with the higher bandwidth in sli and how that compares to maxwell sli performance.
