I'm planning to build a new rig because my older PCs video card died, and one of my theories why my GPU died are the brownouts. In our area we got a lot of brownouts we literally expect every time that there will be a brownout coming, like they say in Germany, Germans usually have a bad weather right? they expect every time that there will be a rain. Same as for us but we expect brownouts :) Anyway if I'm gonna have a gaming rig again what AVR/UPS should I get, does a $10 worth of AVR/UPS should be fine or cheap AVR/UPS will actually make it worst? I really don't have any idea about UPS thing, but there's a Output power capacity in UPS right like the maximum of watts that they could handle? What if my rig exceed over 750W should I get a UPS that is 800W? Talking about UPS I saw some UPS an APC brand they have a UPS that can handle 325W and cost around $60-65 and there's UPS that can handle 550W and cost around $130, so if my rig will really exceed over 750W and I will get an 800W UPS that is so expensive its super out of my budget even that $60 range of UPS, or in UPS it doesn't matter even you have a PSU that is 750W you can still use a 325W UPS without a problem? confusingggggg o.O

Edit: Owww UPS is like a power bank.

no

the USP will not keep your PC running, your PC will just stop becuase its not getting enough power

you usually want a UPS that is rated for 2x what your build consumes

just because you have a 750W PSU does not mean your PC uses 750W under load

so find out how much power you PC actually uses and get a UPS that can do about 1.5x to 2x that

how many minutes does UPS last, if I already have a UPS that is 2x higher that my PC watts consuming?

about 10-30 mins depending on load

also remember you need to plug your monitor into it too, not just PC

@Enderman what about if I only want a surge protection and just AVR what kind of AVR should I get is the $10 worh of AVR can do the job done, how many watts should I get for AVR if my rig i.e. is 800W?

$10 will not get you anything

and no a surge protector does nothing to help with power fluctuation or outage

what can you suggest? I only want a surge protection because we have a lot of brownouts here in our area.

so you want a USP or a surge protector?

are you trying to prevent damage from brownouts? because a surge protector does not do that, you need a UPS
