Okay, so here is my question(s)

I have an ASUS P8H77-V motherboard. https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H77V/overview/

I'm wanting to upgrade my GTX 550 TI to a GTX 970 or better.

CAN I UPDATE THE GRAPHICS CARD?? I understand I might not get the full potential unless I update the RAM and maybe the CPU as well.

I'm running the current specs

Intel Xeon E31220 @ 3.10 HGz

16GB of Vengeance RAM

and a 1000w modular power supply

Thanks,

Scott

Yes, your cpu is not bad even now! I would recommend waiting a week or so and getting a 1070!

Main PC |CPU - i7-6700k|GPU - R9 290x tri-x 4gb|RAM - 16gb ddr4|MOBO - MSI z170 - A PRO|HDD - WD 1TB/240gb Sandisk |PSU - 700w Raidmax

get a used 970 or a new 1070, depending on what you want to spend and what you will be doing, the rest of the specs seems fine tbh so just go for it :D

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

They are not out yet they have just been unveiled.

Right, but honestly, what the fuck are the chances that it wont run PCIE 3.0 as an interface? Like Nvidia had demo machines at the launch event and unless they're also getting into the motherboard business, I seriously doubt it would use anything else.

I never said anything about it not using PCI-e, obviously it uses PCI-e 3.0 since 4.0 hasn't been released yet and no one has bothered to implement 3.1 + anything PCI-e is backwards compatible with previous revisions.

But still, PCIE is backwards compatible, as you mentioned, so there's literally no reason why a 970 wouldn't be perfectly fine in the OP's situation.

Sorry, this felt really hostile as I wrote it, I guess I just ingested a lot of NaCl recently xD
