So I just noticed static on my speakers when I turn it up to a higher volume. Now the static only happens when something is moving on my monitor, odd. It comes out of my speakers, hooked up to my receiver, or my headphones, conected to headphone out on receiver, but NOT headphones connected to onboard audio (note receiver is connected to onboard via RCA, so analoug.)

Not sure why this is, seems odd, it could just be the reciever is amplifieing an onboard issue, as it seems if it was a receiver issue, moving something on the screen wouldent effect it. Though I got my headphones to a comparable volume with onboard and did not hear the static. Any ideas?

"I have studio monitors that I hook up to this and it was generating some noise every time I moved the mouse and got really loud when I would play a game. I was using a 3.5mm TRS to dual 1/4th inch connector that plugged to each speaker. The cable was getting a lot of interference. Using an audio interface (Peavey USB Audio Interface) with dual XLR outputs fixed this noise issue. I researched this noise issue and it can be a lot of things, so this might not be the fix for others, but it was for me."

Let me know if this situation applies to you. I got this from a build guide that is inspiring my next build. (x

electromagnetic interference from your computer ect probably, btw i can get in the the radio if i turn on only my speakers xD and pretty decent quality too, goes away the second i turn on my PC tho, but probably some electromagnetic interference at play here

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

As previously mentioned, it can be many things. Try lifting the ground or plugging the receiver on another outlet to see if it helps. It can also be a noisy PC power supply (lots of ripple under load).

If your onboard sound adapter has a high output impedance, it is also possible that it doesn't sufficiently attenuate interference from other system components. This allows the noise to be amplified by the receiver. Headphones have a much lower input impedance compared to the preamp stage of your receiver, which in turn may be low enough to sufficiently attenuate the stray emf.

My PSU should be good, its a seasonic.

Not sure what my onboard sound is, its from a cheap 45$ motherboard, so that could be the problem.

I wish i could test it by switching to digital input on my receiver, but thats broken.

Probably should just get a new receiver, because I need one anyway, would like to get one where the HDMI isnt broken...

Try the guide and anything suggested here that isn't on the guide. Report what you do and what the effects were, if any.

Generally, the strategy is to isolate components, starting at the speaker and working up the chain. Eventually you'll cut out the source of the static, identifying it, and from there a solution can be found.
