Hello There!

With the new Nvidia Graphics presented I thought it would be time to get myself a new Gaming Setup. I aim to play games like 'The Witcher III' or 'ArmA III' on display while running basic tasks like a browser on a second display.

I am also planning to overclock my CPU by a fair amount (aiming for at least 4.5 GHz). Now i am searching for assistance what cooler to use (water/air) and which results are possible.

Here are my plans (so far):

  • Corsair 600C Case
  • MSI Z170A GAMING Pro
  • Intel Core I7-6700k
  • Noctua NH-D15 air cooler?
  • MSI GeForce GTX 980Ti  OR  GTX 1080 (Still waiting for the price in GER since it can be very diffrent to the US)
  • 16GB HyperX Fury DDR4-2133
  • 600W be quiet! Pure Power L8
  • 1 TB HDD + 256 GB SSD

All in all this results in a cost of 1600 Euros or 1800 bucks. If you have any better ideas for this budget please tell me in a reply.

Thanks for youre time and support!

Yours pluppy

Looks OK to me!

Also if the 980Ti gets really cheap, go for it, since it has pretty much the same power as a 1080, but if they are the same price, go for the 1080, it will be more efficent and have more memory.

I would say that if you want a more quiet system, you should go for a Corsair H100iGTX or something similar. I have not had much experience with that CPU although if you plan to overclock, an AIO would definately be a valuable replacement for the NH-D15.

For system monitoring, I use a small Linx 8 tablet running windows 10 home with the NZXT cam software so I can monitor my system without having to have the software on on the system itself.

The ObsidianPC was designed to be an ultra portable gaming system that I could take anywhere and use with ease. Currently I am having a few issues with the cooling, although I do plan to add some extra 120mm fans in the GPU chamber to help pull some of the hot air out.

The next target for the system is to make it ultra portable, by buying a portable monitor and a good quality wireless keyboard, so I can truly have a good small setup that I can take anywhere.

its not so useful in older games but you can still overclock it. it wont bottleneck for sure. newer games can take advantage of more and for anything other than gaming the 5820k is better. you can go 6700k but then you dont need to spend 1600€.
