Unfortunately, yes, this is one of those threads. I searched before making this topic, and I see that it's a very common issue? Though unfortunately, none of the solutions that work for anyone else work for me, and all of the previous threads were rather old, and y'know it shows that little message at the bottom 'Please consider making a new topic instead of reviving this one', so here I am.

As you can probably guess, I need help Installing .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 10.

OS Name    Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version    10.0.10586 Build 10586
System Model    OptiPlex 3020
System Type    x64-based PC
System SKU    OptiPlex 3020
Processor    Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4130 CPU @ 3.40GHz, 3400 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date    Dell Inc. A02, 1/7/2014
SMBIOS Version    2.7
Platform Role    Desktop
Secure Boot State    Unsupported
Hardware Abstraction Layer    Version = "10.0.10586.0"

I didn't really know what was and wasn't important, so I left some things I assumed were minor out of the system specs. 'Cause it was a lot.

Now, the error I'm getting is

https://i.gyazo.com/b094bcfc51d0fd7fcdf19f1a52762d0d.png whenever I try to install the .NET framework. And if I try to run it with a .exe downloaded from the microsoft page, it tells me,

8fcc7713593fe1680f9e9484696f295f.png Yes indeedie, it tells me that in order to install .NET Framework 3.5, I need to have .NET Framework 3.5 downloaded. Any solutions? Also, I've already tried installing it through control panel.

I've tried that solution numerous times, and it just gives me the first error where it says 'Windows couldn't complete the requested changes'. I do appreciate your assistance, though! Anything else I can try?

ah sorry, i didn't notice the text in and between your pics. did you reboot your pc since?

I get that whenever you press the "download and install this feature" it just says that the file can't be found?

I've read that a simple reboot could fix it before, so I've tried that, though I just finished one now for good measure. Tried to install through control panel and executable file, neither one worked.

And yeah, that's essentially the gist of it. If I knew what 'file' it meant, I'd probably easily be able to download a knock-off version of said file and put it in system32 until I actually manage to install 3.5, though I doubt the error is as literal as it says. (What file would it even be looking for, really?)

*Edit: Numerous attempts at installing gave me a new error message:

It'll often switch between that one or the first one of my original post, if that helps at all

do you have the offline installer or the small download one?

Yes yes !! I've tried a full redistributable installer, an offline installer, an installer that just activates windows update, all of which I've tried both 32bit versions of and 64bit versions of, and then versions made for both, and nothing seems to work. The only solution I haven't tried is a full wipe of my PC and then installing 3.5 (which, if possible, I'd like to refrain from doing as I've had this PC for the longest time, and there's far too many files I'd want to keep for me to back them all up)

*Edit: Were you asking which one I had in general? If so, both. Neither of the two have worked
