What Causes a YouTube Video to Play Slowly on older Hardware?

So I got a Dell Dimension 8200 with a Pentium 4 at 2.4 GHz, 512MBs of RAM, and Windows XP. Of course, this computer rarley ever sees internet due to the fact XP is out of support. But I decided to play a YouTube video, and it tends to have a hard time playing he video. And it made me curious. I don't plan to upgrade this system, but what would make it play a YouTube video better? And no I am not going to upgrade it. I am just curious.

Try getting the latest browsers for it.

do this and if you have any expandibilty, get a better wi-fi card

I do have this connect to the Ethernet, and I did try this on the latest version of Firefix since it seems to be faster than Chrome.

It has 10/100 that's enough for 720p plus the iPhone 4 has 512 MB RAM and it runs youtube fine so......

A lot of possible causes for that system

  • Insufficient RAM
  • Weak GPU (i.e. Integrated Graphics)
  • Out-dated web browser
  • The CPU compute performance is just too slow -- web browsers receive regular updates, and will gradually require better hardware to run

That is true if you were running the same application on both the computer and the phone, but because the mobile version is better optimized so it will run better.
